The safety of our customers and employees is a top priority. Pierce Transit is actively tracking the progress of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and communicating with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to ensure we are following their guidance moving forward.
In order to maintain a safe environment, we are taking the following actions:
- Keeping our customers safe by keeping our vehicles clean and disinfected. Pierce Transit has always cleaned and disinfected our buses each day. We are now taking extra measures by adding mid-day disinfecting to buses at our mid-day storage yard in Seattle, with a focus on “high touch” areas such as handrails and grab bars, using a disinfectant approved by the Centers for Disease control as effective for Coronavirus/COVID-19. We are cleaning public restrooms at the Tacoma Dome Station and Commerce Street transit hubs twice each day, and disinfecting these spaces four times a day. Our SHUTTLE paratransit vehicles are cleaned and disinfected each day, and SHUTTLE drivers have been given disinfecting wipes they can use to wipe down their areas throughout the day. We are following the State's Public Transportation Guidelines and have blocked off seats for social distancing on the bus, so we recommend you sit in available seats only.
- Protecting our employees to keep them healthy and on the job. In order to keep our employees healthy and continuing to serve riders, we have doubled the number of cleanings at our headquarters and other employee locations. Our bus and paratransit operators have been provided with disinfecting wipes, gloves and hand sanitizer they can use to keep their driver areas and hands clean. You can help keep yourself, our employees and your fellow transit riders healthy by practicing good hygiene habits on the bus, especially covering your coughs and sneezes. For additional information about how to protect yourself from Coronavirus/COVID-19, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website.
- Keeping you informed. We encourage you to sign up for route-by-route text alerts by visiting the Stay Connected page on our site, entering your wireless number and selecting the route(s) you ride. You will receive a text message if your route is impacted due to this event. Also, keep an eye on our website for the latest updates, and follow us on Twitter.
We will continue to respond to this event by making customer and employee safety our priority. We are closely monitoring all available information, including updated recommendations from local, state and federal authorities. We will continue to update our customers with any changes to our operations.
Thank you for riding Pierce Transit. Stay safe and healthy!
